Brief Answer:
Since when you are on Lamictal?

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I could see that you have mentioned Lamictal in your medication history, which is a first line drug for the grand mal seizures. When was Lamictal started?Did you have any seizure episode after starting Lamictal?

Please review back with MRI Brain, which though may come normal in many cases of Grand mal seizures, which are then called as Idiopathic seizures.

If seizure was not long back,an EEG may be done, which may help in localizing the seizure focus,if any.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some follow up questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.

My seizures were May 16 of this year. The next day in hospital is when I started lamictal. I have had an eeg in hospital. The neurologist there said I had childhood epilepsy. I had no seizures when I was younger!!! He said it could have been stress or other meds I was on. In total I was on probably 17 different meds. When I was in er my kidney creatinines were 3.9.
I have major problems with depression so I was on several meds for that. Why did these seizures wait till now to show up. I am an independent person and it is hard not driving but I fullu understand.
I have to wear a life alert. Is that because they are not sure this med will work? Also is that why the doctors won't give me anything for my pain on right side or anything for migranes until mri comes back?? I don't know if I can do this for 3 weeks til I see neurologist again. If he finds something will he call me before then??

Brief Answer:
I see no reason to call it a childhood epilepsy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

Firstly,I am not able to see any reason for why your neurologist is calling it a childhood epilepsy, while you had no seizure in childhood. You may discuss the reasoning with him. So,I am not convinced that seizures have waited till old age to occur. This is simple-'Seizures occurred in old age, means seizures occurred in old age. There is nothing like waiting in case of seizures'.

You are asked to wear a life alert,to take precautions.Of course, only the time ahead will tell whether this medicine will work well or not.

Again, this is no reason for which you should not have been given any pain/migraine medicines. Why to wait for MRI,for giving a pain medicine?Hard to understand. You should clearly ask this with your treating doctor.

Probably,if there is something significant on your MRI,your doctor may call you up.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some follow up questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.

I have recv an answer on mri. The nurse said everything is ok. I am still having migranes and I cannot sleep because my right side from my shoulder to my knee has constant pain. My regular dr did X-rays and found no fracture. What do I need to do since I do not go to neuro till July???

Brief Answer:
You should be on medication for Migraine/Rheumatologist opinion

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

There is no reason for which you should not be on your migraine treatment,at present.
I suggest you to start taking amitriptyline tablet, which will take care of migraine prophylaxis as well as stress factor, which might be contributing towards extremities pain. For acute episodes of migraine, triptans and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be taken.

PLEASE TAKE MEDICINES UNDER A PHYSICIAN'S GUIDANCE ONLY.

Further,I suggest you to get yourself examined by a Rheumatologist for knee and shoulder pain.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some follow up questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.
