Query: Doctor, I am done with the 1 month course on the above mentioned medicines. I took all the medicines except Selenium 3x regularly for the past 30 days on time. Arnica Q is over now. You asked me to check with you after 1 month of course. What should I do now? and How would I measure the impact [if any] ? Is there any other course to be started now ? Please respond with a detailed answer. Thanks in advance doctor.

Brief Answer:
Hair fall & Dandruff

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and after going through your detailed History, I have come up with following suggestions and management.

A.
1. Dandruff and hair fall go hand in hand [Dandruff leads to irritation and inflammation in the scalp with resulting hair fall], and also have you checked with your thyroid status [underactive] and hemoglobin level.
2. Low humidity and any immunocompromised state can also lead to the above said problem? [any such in you]
3. Too much calcium in the body can also negatively affect the hair. [please check with values of calcium ]

Please revert back with above concerns for treatment aspect, in the meantime preventive aspect is given below

i. Avoid too much exposure to sun.
ii. As you are from India, [haryana] thus summer season is one of the culprits; make sure you take adequate protection for the same.
iii. Avoid high extremes of temperature
iv. After bath make sure you avoid vigorous toweling of hair, let them dry naturally.
v. Make less choice for synthetic hair oils, hair coloring, bleaching, styling and use of dry blowers.
vi. Avoid excessive exposure to sun, heat, wind, dust, anger, stress, anxiety,
vii. Avoid oily, fried, spicy, hot, fermented and stale food.
viii.
. Proteins are essential for antibodies production so milk, egg (white), beans, yogurt, soymilk, pumpkin, squash, watermelon, peanuts, almonds, if non-vegetarian (meat) are choices .
ix. Mango, carrots, cantaloupe, egg yolk, apricots, pumpkin, papaya, are ideal
x. Vitamin C: is needed for proper functioning of immune system: amla is good option.
xi. Vitamin E: is a powerful anti oxidant thus peanuts, dried apricots, cooked spinach taro root can be taken
xii. Soap nut (reetha) and shikakai along with Bhringraj and Neelini oil acts as natural conditioner and XXXXXXX you can use it safely.
xiii. Vitamin B1 and B2, Omega-6 and Zinc, magnesium, biotin are very effective in treating dandruff so make sure they are a part of regular vitamin intake, apple cider vinegar, Olive Oil or Coconut Oil, raw aloe vera juice applied directly to scalp.

PS. You need to Consult a Trichologist for your hair loss to rule out any other pathology, who will make sure that you are not affected with any fungal infection of the scalp [eczema/psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis ], [it is not dandruff, but the reasons for dandruff that cause hair loss.]

Thanks doctor, I take all the above precautions except few like:

Soap nut (reetha) and shikakai along with Bhringraj and Neelini oil acts as natural conditioner and XXXXXXX you can use it safely.

Rest of the things I follow. I see this to be majorily because of congenitcal problem.

1. Thyroid status - Normal, Hemoglobin level - 14.3
2. Immunocompromised state - What are the tests which checks this?
3. Too much calcium in the body can also negatively affect the hair - Need to know tests for this???

Brief Answer:
Immunomodulation and Diagnostic Tests

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Thanks for reverting back.

A. If cause seem to be a congenital problem, thus keep following things in mind:

i. Dandruff is not contagious nor hereditary, thus problem you are relating with congenital has to be hair fall.
PS. other way around: dandruff is caused due to dry skin and dry skin is hereditary.

ii. If a close family member has the disease, the risk of developing it is slightly increased .
iii. initially we have to start with Immunomodulation [Rasayan Chikitsa] Treatment and later restore to non- surgical hair replacement [if you believe hair loss is psychologically traumatic and some people may have a poorer outcome with Conservative line of treatment]
iv. You may ask for effective Prescription Medicines like:
. Trichup Oil & Capsule [VASU]
. Scurfol lotion [ATRIMED]
. For Immunomodulation start taking Amalaki Rasayana, Chayawanprash avleha.

B. Immunocompromised generally means that any parameters which can make you immune system weak and makes you prone for recurrent infection, but in terms of hair loss, low immunity can be due to:
. under active thyroid: excluded
. low hemoglobin: excluded
. WBC [white blood cell count], mainly for neutrophils [ any neutropenia]
. blood sugar/ HIV(at your discretion) [as routine]

C. simple Blood test [blood sample] will measure your calcium level
