Brief Answer: Solution for hair loss Detailed Answer: Hello, Welcome to health care magic, You are having hair loss mainly from the vertex and not over the sides and back of scalp. This is a patterned hair fall seen in Male pattern baldness. There are US FDA approved medical treatments for it like topical minoxidil 5 % solution and Finasteride tablets. Other treatments include low level laser light therapy, PRP, microneedling ( mesotherapy) and also hair transplantation. If you can send me a photograph of your scalp (top view), I can assess the severity grade of the present situation and suggest the best possible solution. You have a feature to upload the images by yourself at the right side of the query page, please utilize that. You can also send the image as attachment to YYYY@YYYY , with the subject as 'Attn: Dr. Johny Chacko'. I will definitely recommend 5 % minoxidil solution 1 ml twice a day local application along with oral tablet of 1mg finasteride once a day. Other treatments will be adjuvants or add ons. One thing you should realize is this hair loss is in your genes. Whatever treatment you will be on will halt the process. Once treatment is stopped genes will take over. So we need to maintain the treatment on a long term. Even if you go for hair transplantation minoxidil solution has to be continued. If you have any clarifications I will be happy to help.

Brief Answer: hair fall solutions Detailed Answer: Hello, I have seen the photograph you have attached. You seem to be having grade 5 vertex stage of baldness. We have a grading for male pattern baldness called Hamilton- Norwood grading. ( you could search for images online to get a better idea). In general, medical treatment in the form of lotions and tablets work well up to grade 4 to grade 5 stages. In your case, I feel hair transplantation will be the best option. Medical treatment as I have mentioned in my previous answer ( in the form of 5% Minoxidil solution and oral finastetide tablets ) will not be sufficient to get good response. The cost of hair transplantation depends on the technique used and the number of grafts used. Please consult a well qualified dermatosurgeon or a plastic surgeon for the same. It can range from INR 80,000 to upto INR 3,00,000. If you are not keen on surgery, you could try medical management. You will need to be compliant with the medicines for at least 6 months to notice any difference. Hope I have addressed your concerns. Take care. Regards, Dr. Johny Chacko

Brief Answer: Hair fall management Detailed Answer: Hello, As I have explained in my previous answers, the best option for you at this stage of baldness is hair transplantation. If you find the cost too expensive, then you could try the following. These are definitely not better than hair transplantation, but since cost is an issue, you could give these a try. 1. Start with medical treatment with 5% minoxidil and oral finasteride. 1 ml of 5% minoxidil solution (eg- Mintop forte solution) has to be applied on the scalp once in the morning after bath (on dry scalp) and once at bedtime. It comes with a dropper with a marking of 1 ml. 1 mg of Tablet finasteride has to be taken in the morning after food. This has to be prescribed by a dermatologist. Continue these for 6 months atleast for you to notice a good difference. After that, depending on the hair regrowth, you could stop finasteride tablets and continue only with minoxidil. 2. You could opt for microneedling procedure with stem cell solutions. Different types of stem cells are used by dermatologists. It will be applied on the scalp and using a device called as a dermaroller, multiple pricks are made to the scalp to facilitate its penetration into the scalp. You may need weekly sessions 8-10 times depending on the response. Charges vary from doctor to doctor - approximately INR 1000-2000 / session. 3. You could also try low level light treatment called as Laser comb. I do this 3 times a week for 6-8 weeks depending on the response. Charges vary from doctor to doctor- approximately INR 1000 - 2000 for every 3 sessions. 4. Lastly, you could also consider hair pieces (wigs). These are a cheaper option and nowadays, many natural looking hair pieces are available. Remember that minoxidil has to continued as long as you want your hair to be preserved. Once you stop, hair fall may restart again as it is programmed in your genes. Hope this helps you. Regards, Dr. Johny Chacko

Thanks Dr., Replies to my query are satisfactory, please also help me to understand if there are any side affects of any of the medicine or procedures explained. Please also brief if I will apply pieces of hairs(wigs) and continued with medicines prescribed, do these medicines work since wigs will not allow me to apply minoxidil.

Brief Answer: Hair loss treatment Detailed Answer: Hello, There are very few side effects from the treatment and procedures. They are well tolerated by a majority of patients. 1. Minoxidil - allergic rreactions, irritation, itching, headache 2. Finasteride - Though side effects like loss of libido and impotence have been reported with finasteride, they are not seen with doses as low as 1 mg which is used for hair loss. These side effects are also reversible once the tablet is stopped. 3. Microneedling - mild pain during the procedure. It can trigger migraine in patients prone for migraine attacks. 4. Laser comb - no side effects reported. Minoxidil can be used on the scalp before using the wig and it will not interfere with its usage. Hope this answers your queries. Regards, Dr. Johny Chacko
