Brief Answer: hypothyroidism and hair loss Detailed Answer: Dear XXXXXXX Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and following points are worth mentioning prior to Dietary Regime and Life style management. 1. Since thyroid gland is related with metabolism and thus in hypothyroidism, metabolism is slower in scalp follicles which leads to a decrease in hair strength and so in quality and ultimately ends in thinning and hair fall from its root or follicle. 2. since low thyroid also cause decrease in hemoglobin values, thus check with Blood Picture to confirm blood level since reduced hemoglobin is also one cause of hair fall. Also one has to rule out other hidden causes of hair fall like: 3. Dandruff and hair fall go hand in hand [Dandruff leads to irritation and inflammation in the scalp with resulting hair fall], please clarify? 4. Low humidity and any immunocompromised state can also lead to the above said problem? [do let me know about any contributing factor or disease] 5. Please revert back with above concerns for treatment aspect, in the meantime preventive aspect is given below i. The main cause of HYPOTHYROIDISM is iodine deficiency, thus take iodine rich diet: iodized salt, sea food, saindhav lavan [himalayan crystal salt], cod liver oil, plain yogurt, banana, strawberries.
