Brief Answer:
Psychosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It appears that your son-in-law is having psychotic symptoms in the form of delusions and hallucinations. He would require treatment with anti-psychotic medicines like Risperdal or Zyprexa. I can understand that he would be unwilling to see a doctor. Please try to contact the doctor who had been prescribing him SSRIs for the learning disability and let him know what has happened. I guess he will be able to change the prescription to cover these symptoms as well.

I hope he has not been taking any amphetamines, marijuana or other such drugs as they can very commonly induce psychotic symptoms.

I hope he gets well soon. Please feel free to ask in case you need any clarifications.

Best wishes.
