Suggest Treatment For Hand Tremors During High Stress

Question: You had answered a question about a year ago relating to lithium finger tremors after cessation of lithium. You indicated that they should improve over 6-12 months. Fortunately, the tremors did improve substantially. It has now been 12 months since cessation of lithium and they have 99% healed and are barely detectable. However during periods of high stress, the fingers sometimes start to vibrate again very noticeably making tasks like high speed typing difficult. I did not have this problem prior to lithium. During low stress situations, the only tremors i see, is when i try to make a fist, the fingers will oscillate rhythmically but its not too noticeable or troublesome. Since we are at the 12 month mark since cessation of lithium, i wanted to ask if these left over finger tremors will also heal? If not, are there any options?

Stress management.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar, again here, to answer your query.

Its a real great news that your tremors have improved to that extent. In your current situation, I am of the opinion that the finger tremors you are having are related to anxiety.

Anxiety is the commonest cause of tremors. As stress is your precipitant, that itself makes clear that anxiety is the possible cause of these tremors. It is just incidental that you were not having anxiety tremors before lithium event and it carries no significance. Anxiety tremors can begin in one's life at any point of time.

I suggest you to start doing regular mental relaxation exercises like meditation along with regular physical exercises(cardio plus strength) and I'm sure you will soon get rid of these tremors.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.
