Suggest Treatment For Hard Lump On Lower Leg

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Nov 2015
Question: Hi. My 16 year old daughter has a hard, non moving, marble size lump on the front of her lower leg. Hurts when she pushes on it. Been there for several weeks. Hasn't moved or changed size. Feels like it's on the bone. It's not squishy and doesn't move when you push on it. Ideas? Should we see the family doctor or a different type of doctor?

Brief Answer:
Needs MRI scan and FNAC.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The hard lump which has appeared on the shin can be due to a sebaceous cyst, a lipoma or a benign tumor like osteoma.
For the confirmation of diagnosis, you need to get this lump examined from your family doctor and get a MRI scan for any soft tissue growth and a FNAB (fine needle aspiration biopsy) done.
FNAB is aspiration of the material of the lump which is done by a fine gauge needle (22 or 25 gauge) and a syringe. Till then, you can apply warm compresses on the lump.
I hope this answers your query.
