Suggest Treatment For Hard Lump On Neck

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jan 2016
Question: Hello I am due to see my GP next week, but I noticed that I have developed a lump on the on the back right side of my neck. I have had it for several months and it is not that noticeable if my neck is straight and also in this case I can barely feel it. But when I bend my head and neck forward a lump shows up that feels quite hard. I haven't had any noticeable neck pain but I am a bit concerned about it. can you give me any advice. I accept the fact that may need further tests (scan and biopsy) to check that the lump is benign.

Hi,Dear thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and reviewed your query.I understood your health concerns.
I feel concerned about it,as for your age to have it,as its hard and painless too.
Dear, with the limited information on texture, feel, size, mobility and so on, I would suggest you to have first get it assessed from a Surgeon by physical examination, which would give the lead to the exact direction of your investigation.
Its not good to comment on its benign and cancerous nature without the Surgeons physical examination data.

-In this scenario,I would suggest you to give Me more insight on the following facts-
does it pain to start with few mths back?
Do you correlate with your sore throat, any how?
Any history of Sore throat repeatedly / chronic smoking / or Thyroid nodule in the past?
What is its size / number/ matted group or single hard lump?
IS the lump hard and XXXXXXX ? or is it firm only and rubbery little bit on pressure?Any other lump in the past? Any history of Cancer / Lymphoma in the family?
Await your information for further replies to plan further on its cause and treatment line.
Welcome for any further query in this regard.
Good Day !!

Thanks for the advice and I realise it is difficult to diagnose a lump without an examination. I saw my GP and after an examination she thought it was a lipoma on the neck. I will be getting a USS neck supraclavicular fossa done by a radiologist before Christmas. If there is any risk to my health then I will get the lump removed.

Hi,Dear, thanks for the updates with fruitful results of My last suggestions.
On review of your updates,I would suggest you to act as follow-
To do list for you-
Get the USG of the Lump area, which would confirm the prima facie radiological lead.
IF it is still not clear get the Surgeon's Expert Opinion on your lump and if still worried
Get the FNAC Biopsy of the Lump in question in the post aspect of the Rt neck.

My IMpression about your problem-
YOur Doctor has rightly advised for USG at this stage of your case assessment.
Your Lump though hard seems mostly to be LIPOMA unless FNAC proves it.
This is a benign tumour and is non-cancerous.
This is the commonest site for the Lipoma, besides abdomen and forearms.

Don't Worry for the LUMP-
So You need not worry about it being Cancerous, till the Histopath study report from attending Surgeon is not received by You,as it would confirm or reject the Cancer worry of your's.
Till then enjoy your life without any tensions and anxiety.

Would Welcome any further query in this regard from YOU,which I would love to help you out in next session.

If you don't have any more query and are satisfied with the reply given,Feel Free to Write excellent Feedback memories of yours, just to help anxious and needy patients like YOU,whom I serve at My Virtual Clinic at HCM.
