Brief Answer:
Depends on conciousness and severity of injury

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. The short answer is.. it depends on how conscious he is. If he is alert and active and speaking to you in a lucid manner, then there is no need to seek further examination. On the other hand if he starts getting very drowsy or difficult to communicate with, then it would be best to get to a major hospital with a Neurosurgical Department and a CT scanner.

In general, look for three signs, if you notice any of them in any significant way, it should make you start heading for the hospital.

Excessive sleepiness
Confusion, confused speech
Difficulty keeping eyes open or a single pupil being ‘blown’ (wider)
Difficulty moving or using limbs
Difficulty breathing

I understand that at this time of night, one would hope for rest. I think it would be safer if you kept in him conscious though for the night. The alternative, of course, is to head the the hospital and get a CT of the Brain.

Let me know how else I can help. I look forward to your reply,

Vinay

Brief Answer:
He need not go, and at this point, he can rest

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thanks for following up. As long as none of those symptoms have been seen then there is no need to see a doctor. Pain itself is not that important a symptom.

Now that it has been about 8 hours since the injury, I would say that it would be safe to let him rest up as he likes.

If the head injury was with high force, then he may have developed a concussion (bruising of the brain). this post concussive syndrome can last a few weeks and can include minor confusion, fatigue, slight difficulty in concentration and such. As such, there is no need to be seen by a doctor for any of this, rest and pain killer medication would be enough to get over this.

I hope this helps. Let me know what else i can help you with.

Brief Answer:
I prefer OTC pain killers

Detailed Answer:
Hi, sorry for the delay in answering. I think paracetamol 500mg every 6 hours or so is a good pain killer when he is hurting. As long as he has no lover problems it is very safe to take.

Ice pads always help, just make sure they are applied for a maximum of 20 min at a stretch, after that the skin needs to warm up again for another 15 or 10min.

Hope this helps.
