Suggest Treatment For Headache, Stiff Neck And Intermittent Chest Pain

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Jun 2017
Question: I have had a headache, stiff neck, and intermittent, burning chest pain for months. CT of chest and head show nothing. Doctor thought tension headaches, prescibing a muscle relaxer. No good. Take Tribenzor and a statin for depression. Pain emanates from back of neck, up and around both sides and over and within. Fluctuates from mild to severe. Always there. Chest pain runs around sternum. Burning runs from mild to severe with occasional pinch at sternum. I have prolapse mitral valve, occasion palpitations. A tooth implant
Is causing problem and seeing periodontist next week. These are the symptoms.

Brief Answer:
MVP, tooth implant can be managed

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Tribenzor is antihypertensive medicatioon and a statin is a lipid lowering drug. They are not used for the management of depression.

The muscle relaxant was prescribed correctly and should be continued. NSAIDs like piroxicam can also be added to see for improvement for a period of one week.

An EKG and stress test (ETT) should also be advised in this regard to rule out a cardiac cause.

MVP (Mitral valve prolapse ) is usually asymptomatic and doesn't require any valve replacement in majority of the cases. Endocarditis prophylaxis is also not required in such cases. If symptoms like palpitations are present then beta blockers can be advised.

If the implant is infected then antibiotics can be advised. No special prophylaxis is needed in terms of MVP.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
