Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: My mother fell on the floor and hit her head on it and the scarting, next to the wall. As of now, she is just having a headache and have a bump at the back side of her head. Nothing more is being being experienced by her, as she says. As an emergency action, she is applying ice on the affected area and have taken Combiflame as the pain killer. Is there something else which I should do right now?

Brief Answer:
clinical observation

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for using HCM.

Can understand your concern, towards your mother regarding the problem.

As such with head injury if she has no major problems (due to raised intracranial pressures)like fits, loss of conciousness, vomiting, irritability, blurring of vision, recurrent headache, restlessness or any bleeding from the nose there is no need to worry.

Her concious level (with no loss of conciousness) itself decides that there is no issue or any severe injury.

The bump in the back side of the head can be due to local traumatic haematoma due to the fall, which resolves beautifully on cold compression, please continue.
Combiflam also helps to reduce the pain.

In that case you can observe her for the above symptoms & signs, for any raised intracranial pressure, or persistent headache, please take her to the ER to check her haemodynamics.

If required for a CT-Brain to rule out for intracranial bleeding or skull fractures.

Hoping she will not land up in any clinical problems, for emergency.

Wishing her good health.
All the best, take care.
