Question: Could you please give me some direction :
I'm a 66 yr old female that has had controlled hypertension until the last year and a half. I've had numerous BP meds in combination with now great success and too many side effects. My combination currently is:losortin100mg,bystolic 5mg hctz 25mg and spirololactone 25mg .experiencing headaches, digestive disturbances , breast tenderness.
What should I be asking my cardiologist? I believe she thinks I'm a chronic complainer.

Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

The current health problems you are having are related to spironolactone use. I highly recommend to discuss with your cardiologist about stopping spironolactone due to these side effects.

If doing this destabilise your BP than you can add other preparation to your yherapy.

In such a case I would recommend adding a calcium channel blocker for example amlodipine.

All the best!

Thank you
I had been taking a calcium blocker Nifenical xl, however it crested ankle swelling and I have lipedema.
Is there other drugs that work like a calcium blocker w/o the side effect od edema?
I'm very discouraged ...... I've been in the ER for BP 200/110 twice in three months.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

There are lot of drugs that may be used in your case. For example you can try lercanidipin which is another calcium channel blockers that cause less ankle swellings.

Also you can discus the possibility of starting an alpha blockers such as Cardura or Aldomet (if calcium channel blockers aren't suitable for you).

My principal advice is that you shouldn't quit any medications before discussing this with your doctor.

Wish you health!
