Suggest Treatment For Headaches, Night Sweats And Dizziness

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Dec 2016
Question: Since Tuesday night I started to feel ill. In short, I began having cold spells. It was 80 degrees outside and I would have the chills and be shivering. I assume I had a fever but no way to tell at the time. Two days later, I continued with the same symptoms adding a steady moderate headache in the front of my head. Then night sweats and more cold chills. Once I returned home, I was able to take my temp of 102.4. I too some ibuprofen, 200mg. Went to bed. Woke up felt a bit better temp was down to 101. Took some more medicine, finally came down to 99. Still had headaches and moments of dizziness if I moved suddenly. Also noticed a development of a bump just in front of my left ear that hurts to the tough but is hardly noticeable if I do not touch it. With medicine the temperature goes back down but will rise shortly after. Urine is dark with a strong odor. I have been trying to drink plenty of water. I do not feel nauseous and I still have an appetite.

Brief Answer:
It can be due urinary tract infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to urinary tract infection. Doing urine routine examination will be helpful to rule out this. Puss cells will be increased in such case. I would also advise blood routine examination to find signs of infection.

In case of signs of infection in urine or blood routine examination antibiotic therapy will be required. I would suggest broad spectrum antibiotics like Co-amoxiclav or ofloxacin in such case. These are prescription drugs. Co amoxiclav is given in dosage of 625 mg twice daily for 5 to 7 days.
Taking cranberry juice or barley water is good to dilute your urine. Swelling near ear is most likely a lymph node enlargement due to infection.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

thank you for taking your time to read my query. I would like to see if there is an alternative diagnosis. never had a urinary tract infection before period I do not urinate frequently or for short intervals nor is it painful. I assume the reason for my dark yellow urine is due to dehydration. please advise

Brief Answer:
Chills and shivering is more specific for urinary infection.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

Chills and shivering is more specific for urinary infection. So better to do urine routine examination to rule out this to be on safe side. Blood routine examination also should be done and if there is any other infection it can be evident from this. Enlarged lymph node on front of ear can be associated with upper respiratory tract infection or sinus infections. So if there is any signs of bacterial infection in blood routine examination antibiotic therapy is advised. If ESR is raised in case of any systemic infections also.

Brief Answer:
If you don't take enough water it is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

If you don't take enough water or fluids there is increased risk of urinary tract infection. I would suggest taking barley water or cranberry juice to dilute urine and decrease acidity of urine. You can also take Disodium hydrogen citrate syrup in water for alkalizing urine.
