Question: My 9 year old has been ill. Symptoms started 23-6-15 where she had symptoms of headache, sore throat, temp, nausea, blurry vision, dizziness, cough, vomiting, stomach pain in the area just below her ribs, also had trouble breathing (asthma)...went to hospital and bloods showed a high white cell count and she was hospitalised for the asthma (nothing else)...2 days ago started again with the exact same symptoms (less the asthma this time) also new presentation of soreness under the left armpit..what could this possibly be?

Brief Answer:
She needs a complete evaluation for infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Your daughter's symptoms are most likely due to infection involving her respiratory tract. Asthma doesn't seem to be the cause to me as it is a chronic illness and many symptoms do not seem to fit into asthma spectrum.

Also, the high counts point towards some infection. So, I would recommend you to take her for a proper and complete body clinical examination by pediatrician. They may advice you for chest X Ray along with laboratory work up such as :

-Complete blood counts with differential and peripheral smear
- C reactive proteins and ESR
- S. Electrolytes- sodium , potassium and calcium
- Throat swab culture in case of associated pharyngitis

Along with visual assessment.
Anything definitive can be said only after that.
You may post the reports for my reference so that I may help you further.

Take care

Brief Answer:
Glandular Fever usually presents with high grade fever, swollen glands

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Glandular fever is associated with high grade fever, sore throat and swollen lymph nodes in various parts of body especially neck. Since your daughter does not have fever, so it's possibility is less likely.
But to be clear about the diagnosis, a paediatrician visit is a must. I appreciate that you have already booked your appointment.
I would be glad to help you with any further questions.
Take care
