Brief Answer:
As it is blood admixed dysentery she will require antibiotic please

Detailed Answer:
Hi...It seems your kid is having bacterial dysentery. Once it starts it will take 5-7 days to completely get better. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.

Antibiotics are required here and best choice would be Cefixime. But this is a prescription drug and you will require a doctor's prescription for it.

I suggest you use zinc supplements (Z&D drops 1ml once daily for 14 days) & ORS (Each small packet mixed in 200ml of potable water and keep giving sip by sip) as hydration is very important and crucial part of treatment. If there is vomiting you can use Syrup Ondansetron (as prescribed by your paediatrician).

Regarding diet - Avoid fruit juices as they might aggravate diarrhea. You can give zinc supplements & ORS apart from normal vegetarian porridges & soups.

What does blood admixed dysentery mean exactly? What is ORS?

So tonight my daughter had blood in the toilet after she sat down & just passed gas. I didn't see it but I did tell her to tell me so I can see if it happens again. I will be taking her to our dr this week as this is worrying me & her.

She hasn't been overly energetic. Quiet, seems spaced out.

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on dysentery

Detailed Answer:
Hi....
1. Blood admixed dysentery is stools with mucus and blood streaks.
2. If she's active, not dehydrated and urinating well, you need not worry please.
3. But she definitely needs antibiotic as soon as possible, the drug of choice would be, Cefixime.
4. ORS is oral rehydration solution. It's a medicated salt with appropriate electrolytes to be mixed in water and consumed.
