Suggest Treatment For Hearing Loss After Head Injury

Posted on Mon, 25 Jan 2016
Question: Hi Doctor,
Like the previous enquiry I sustained a head injury from falling off a bicycle over a year ago. Some six months after the accident I experienced a reduction in hearing in one ear and a constant echo in that side of my head when I talk which is very debilitating. I have had a CT scan but the hospital can find nothing wrong. I would be very grateful for your advice.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Can be due to nerve fibres damage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The reduced hearing and an echo in the ear can be related to a minor damage of the auditory nerve fibers that may not be detected on a CT scan.
It is best to consult an ENT specialist for an audiometry test to find out the cause of decreased hearing. The decrease in hearing capacity can be related to the trauma that you suffered on your head.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
Dr. Praveen Tayal.
