Question : 4 day old infant had hearing test today. Parents were told infant failed the hearing test and will reschedule in 6 weeks. Is this standard or should the infant be taken to a specialist now?
Brief Answer:
Infant should be taken to specialist now.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your query; and suggests you that infant should be taken to specialist.
For your kind information two types of infant hearing tests are used---
1. BERA- Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry.
2. OAE- Otoacoustic Emissions.
Some doctors use both tests, while others screen first with OAE and follow up with BERA if the infant does not test well.
