Brief Answer:
combination of medication would be best at first

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are medications that reduce the acid production in the stomach and thereby reduce reflux eg prilosec , prevacid and nexium
The three of these are available over the counter and work well to suppress acid production.

Because they suppress acid production but cannot do anything with the acid that is already there, they can take a few days to have an effect in some persons, up to 5 days, in others, they may work faster.

Because of this possible delay, some persons opt to use medications such as tums, maalox for the first few days along with the other reflux medication.
These meds neutralize acid, they would not stop it from being produced, the combination should be helpful

Reduce the use of caffeine, spicy foods, onions, mint, acidic foods, tomatoes, chocolate, fatty/fried foods.
Use small meals frequently instead of large meals. This would stimulate less acid production

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
