default
Posted on Tue, 22 Nov 2016
Question: Okay . I usually have heartburn and it makes me feel uncomfortable. After doing several tests, I found out that I have acid reflux and the presence of H-pylori Bacteria in my stomach, I went to see an ENT doctor, who prescribed drugs like Lansoprazole, Amoxycillin, and clarithromycin, and some other ones which I took for 2 weeks. After 4-5 weeks, I went to do a stool test to monitor if I still have H-pylori and the result showed positive. After about 4 more weeks, I found out that I am still experiencing heartburn , now looking at things , I felt I should resume the LAC treatment therapy for the second time , maybe I could have a complete cure of the H-pylori. will this be advisable as I have already begun and I am on the 3rd day? Please advise me on what to do . Thanks

Brief Answer:
First confirm presence of infection with more accurate method

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
1) These treatments are for H.Pylori infection and it must be taken for 2 weeks
2) Continuation of symptoms does not mean continuous presence of infection. Your symptoms may be due to GERD (reflux).
3) About your repeat test for H.Pylori; stool test for H.Pylori is not reliable. For confirmation you must do RUT test on endoscopic biopsy tissue of stomach. This is very safe procedure and can be done along with endoscopy.
4) Your your symptoms are due to GERD which is most commonly due to hiatus hernia. In hiatus hernia, portion of stomach move up in chest due to weak opening in diaphragm from where oesophagus enter into abdomen. This condition require surgery for cure, as there is no medical treatment.
5) I suggest to proceed for endoscopic biopsy for confirmation of H.Pylori before doing repetition of antibiotic course and also to have look on hiatus hernia during endoscopy.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
