Question : I have been facing heartburn & acute gastritis trouble. So as suggested by the doctor had an Ultrasound scan done which indicated gallbladder polyps.
Based on this report, I was referred to a specialist who asked me to get an Endoscopy & MRPC done.
Upper GI Endoscopy report:
Clinical diagnosis: GERD
Oesophagus: Normal Mucosa
Stomach: Mucosal hyperemia noted
Duodenum: D1 and D2 normal
Impression: Acute Gastritis
MRPC report:
Gall Bladder: Distended. Multiple small filling defects noted adherent to the gall bladder wall, largest measuring 4mm at the neck region - suggestive of gall bladder polyps (also correlated with sonography, found not to be on-dependent, adherent to the gall bladder wall). No evidence of calculi / focal mass lesion.
Impression:
Multiple Gall Bladder Polyps. No other significant abnormality.
Question: For gall bladder polyps, based on the MRPC report - the doctor has asked me to consider removal of the gall bladder, as there is a risk of polyps turning malignant. Please suggest.

                                    Brief Answer:
Cholecystectomy can wait
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr Phadki,
You seem to have 2 problems:
1. GB polyps 4mm size
2. Acute gastritis
The general priciple is that we wait and observe for the polyps till they reach a size of 10mm and then cholecystectomy is suggested as there is a risk of malignancy. For smaller sizes they can be observed.
For your acute gastritis, I am sure your doctor would have suggested you medication.
Take care

How frequently should I get an Ultrasound scan done in order to monitor the growth of the existing polyps?
Is there a link between gall bladder polyps & my condition of Acute gastritis? Also, why do GB polyps happen? Is there no way to remove them with medicines.
Thank you.

                                    Brief Answer:
You can get Ultrasound scan done every 3 to 6 months.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr Phadki,
I would suggest follow up Ultrasound scans at an interval of 3-6 months and again depending on their size and growth if happens.
No, there is no known relationship between GB polyps and Gastritis.
Cause for GB polyps is not known however they are sometimes confused with cholesterol stones by radiologists. None of the medicines will remove GB polyps.
