Question : Hi, I have had the shivers and have been sweating heavily for the past 36+ hours. Have bean taking advil/Tylenol. Temperature this morning was 96', but that was an hour after taking 3 Tylenol. Also had a headache over the past 24 hours, and generally feel achy. Any ideas what may be going on? Should I go see my doctor?

Hello. Your symptoms are typical of the flu and unless you also have a sore throat or earache or a cough there's no bacterial infection involved.

Tamiflu, a prescription medication, if taken within 48 hours of the onset of flu symptoms, can shorten the duration of the illness, so it would be best for you to see a doctor for an exam and a prescription for that medication.

Thank you. I do not have diarrhea, nausea, or those types of symptoms. Do you still think it is the FLU?

Hi again. Diarrhea isn't typical with the flu and usually the only symptoms are fever, headache, some nausea, and perhaps body aches.
