Question : I hit my head on the cabinet. It is the back right corner of my head (where the head connects to the neck). It hurts mainly during the day and at night. I can sleep on one side at night because the bump is so big. I went to ER last night due to the pain. I was taking bactrim to treat folliculitis as well and told the PA I was worried that the bump was due to the infection. The PA told me he thought the bump was a cyst and may go down on its own and if nit then to have a surgeon remove it. He prescribed me neproxen antiinflammatory drug. Today I went to my doctor who prescribed bactroban cream to put over it. I told him that I may have bumped my head and this bump could be from that. The doctor told me there were many possibilities ranging from having a bump on head from hitting it to having a cyst or an infection. He told me to finish the bactrim and to come back in five days if the bump still hurts. Please help. One side of my head feels different than tbe other side. I would not say it is numb, but it certaiy feels different. I am really starting to wonder why this bump has not gone down

Hi,Thanks for the query to HCM
I studied and reviewed your query data in context of as to why it has not resolved after 2-3 weeks ? (as it seems from your query).
In My opinion-
You seems to have-Posttraumatic Hematoma Bump on the right side of the back of your head, which has now become Cystlike lump due to resolving hematoma.
Treatment Suggestions-
Your doctors are treating you on right line
Check with Surgeon if the lump still remains after antibiotic course as advised from your doctor.
Get bleeding time and other bleeding profile tests done
Get the USG of the Cystic lump / and if need be CT study of the skull to rule out any inner or bone damage.

Your Surgeon would treat it under antibiotic cover-either by-
a-Wide Bore Needle Aseptic Aspiration -in theater with compression bandage.
b-or / by Planned Surgical Drainage as the case may require after testings and after clinical examination.
Your Surgeon would assess the case and treat it accordingly .

Welcome for any further query in this regard.

Hello Doctor. Thank you for the answer. In your response, you asked if I had this bump for 2-3 weeks. Actually, I have had this bump now for 3 days not weeks. Does this change your answer to my inquiry?

Thanks,

Hi,Thanks for the updates.
The line of Treatment would not change but the details of it may change after seeing the photograph of the affected head part.
A photograph of the affected part of your head would resolve the ambiguity,in absence of it.
Hence I would suggest you to update the photograph of the affected part,so that exact detailed updated suggestions could be planned for your case status.
Hope this would help you.
