Question: Hi. I am a 74 year old white female with a history of DVT during pregnancy and recurrent clot to finger tips. On Warfarin for last 15 years. Have had 5 or six severe hematomas in reaction to minimum falls or scraps. Two weeks ago I fell out of bed-long story- and hit my R thigh on a window sill. Developed huge hematoma which discolored entire leg down to my toes. Bleeding receding but still gave a 5 inch round hematoma on thigh It aches an does not seem to be getting smaller. Hadhemagolbin and I and R test two days after fall.
11 hemoglobin and 2.2 I and R. Taking 10 mg warfarin daily. 12.5 on M and F. Taking CBD and tylenol. Also hx of microscopic colitisbudesonide and anxiety - Wellbutrin and Celexa. Kidney cancer at 53. Broke shoulder while on warfarin 10 yrs ago-big mess never completely recovered. Back and wrist surgery. All surgeries bridged with drug injected in stomach. Clotting problem supposedly related to POV and factor 5 protein issue

Brief Answer:
While on warfarin, you need to monitor your PT and INR.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Since you have a history of DVT, you need to take warfarin and get regular testing for Prothrombin time (PT) and INR.

The INR needs to be maintained between 2-3.

As you have mentioned that there may be factor V issue, I suspect this is the probable cause of DVT.

However, there is no treatment available for factor V deficiency or mutation.
You need to take warfarin lifelong.

Please feel free ask you have more queries, I will be glad to answer.

Thanks and take care

Brief Answer:
FactorV is involved in clotting, mutation of which lead to abnormal clotting

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,

Factor V is involved in coagulation cascade in body.
Mutation of factor V is also known as Leiden mutation leads to abnormality in coagulation cascade leading to clotting in normally running blood in vessels.

In body, blood undergoes clotting only in case of injury to vessel wall.
