Question: Hi Doctor,
I had used the Proctosedyl ointment and started avoiding junk foods and also am having green vegetables and fibrous foods and plenty of water. For some days, it remains ok. But again whenever i have even have a little hard stool , i can see blood with my stool wit a cut sensation. I feel this hemorrhoid comes and goes but is not healing completely. What to do? How to heal it completely and how much time it takes to heal completely.

Brief Answer:
It sounds like a Fissure. You need to keep the stools soft.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
What you most likely have is a Fissure in ano which is actually a cut on the wall of the anal opening. It happens due to increased tone of your anal sphincter and recurrent constipation or hard stools.
What you need to do is keep the stools soft for 4 to 6 weeks for it to heal completely. But there is no guarantee that it will not recur again if you have an episode of hard stools.
Some Surgeons give patients a trial of muscle relaxant ointments like Diltiazem or GTN. Both are available in market and give relaxation to decrease the anal tone so that the cut does not recur even in presence of hard stools.
You could consult your GP or a Surgeon about the same.
But the permanent treatment of the condition would be a small surgery called Lateral internal sphincterotomy in which we cut a part of the sphincter muscles. This give good long lasting relief from Fissures. You can consult your Surgeon about both the options and decide which would be better for you.
Do let me know if there are any other queries on this issue.
Take care.
