Brief Answer:
Treatment of androgenetic alopecia is usually long term..

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Hereditary hair loss is also known as Androgenetic Alopecia.
Minoxidil and Finasteride are approved remedies for Androgenetic Alopecia. They would arrest further progression of thinning and hair fall and even reverse early loss.
These are available on prescription of a dermatologist.
Treatment is long term. Effects are usually evident in 3-6 months and are maximum at about 1-2 years.
The response to treatment depends on how early therapy is started. The earlier it is started the better the response.
I would suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your region for the needful.

Thanks for the reply.

But I am still a bit skeptical as I nearly lost all hopes. Also there are lot of Minioxidyl solution available in walmart but they clearly state of non effectiveness on sideline hair loss or loss on backside of head.

Brief Answer:
Minoxidil and finasteride are together effective in Androgenetic Alopecia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Apart from Minoxidil, Oral Finasteride is also approved for Androgenetic Alopecia. Together they are produce additive results as compared to minoxidil alone.

Finasteride is specific for this type of hair loss; it specifically inhibits the enzyme 5- alpha reductase present in hair follicles. This enzyme converts serum testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is the main culprit responsible for thinning and hair loss in androgenetic alopecia.
You said it rightly that the treatment is not very effective in regrowing new hair at the V shaped angles at the sides of the anterior hair line but it is very effective in regrowing new hairs at the frontal scalp, vertex (crown) of the scalp.

The response to treatment is variable and may vary from individual to individual; the response also on the degree of hair loss/balding that already exists before treatment is started.
Noticeable improvement is usually seen in most individuals by 3-6 months and this continues to improve by 1-2 years, when maximal improvement is reached.
Thereafter this has to be maintained with once daily finasteride and once daily or alternate days maintenance with topical minoxidil, for the rest of life.

The main goal of treatment is to arrest further progression Or slow down the rate of hair loss. Therefore early the therapy is begun better are the results.
Oral Finasteride is a prescription product, I would suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your region for the needful.
