Suggest Treatment For Hernia, Discomfort And Indigestion

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Feb 2015
Question: Hernia under bottom of left rib cage. Discomfort to mild pain. It pops out and I can push it back in. When this occurs I get substantial indigestion. What is it and what should I do? I had a heart attack in 2011, and had 4 stints. This pain scares me as I am not sure what it is. I have been told by a doctor that it is a hernia, but experienced similar pain and discomfort with my heart attack.

Brief Answer:
Possible epigastric hernia?needs sonographic confirmation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I understand your concern.

This could be possibly be a case of epigastric hernia.

This kind of hernia is quite common in elderly females.

It can present with chest as well as abdominal symptoms.

This can present with symptoms of indigestion.

It's extremely important that you get it confirmed by an ultrasound abdomen.

Even though it produces symptoms mimicking heart attack, its not quite related to it.

The only risk which this type of hernia carries is, bowel obstruction or strangulation.

Its very important that you get it repaired surgically when it is causing distressing symptoms.

You need to consult an expert Gastrointestinal surgeon-MS/Mch for this purpose.

Post your further queries,if any.
Thank you.
