Brief Answer:
most persons have no symptoms

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

A hiatal hernia occurs when a very small portion of the stomach pushes through the diaphragmatic esophageal hiatus.
The diaphragmatic esophageal hiatus is the opening in the diaphragm where the esophagus passes through. It is supposed to be there.
In some persons however, a small amount of the stomach also passes through as well, this is called a hiatal hernia.

The exact cause of hiatal hernia is not known at this present time.

Most persons have no symptoms. Some persons may have worsening of reflux symptoms.

Very very rarely do complications occur as a result of the hernia

Treatment depends on if symptoms are present. As stated earlier, most persons do not have any symptoms at all, if a person has reflux symptoms then treatment for reflux is started

Reflux treatment involves diet and lifestyle changes and medication such as the nexium you are using.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
this would be the diet for reflux

Detailed Answer:
HI

The diet would be that for reflux, since this is the main possible problem that can occur with hiatal hernia.
This would only be necessary if you are having reflux symptoms

This involves: (1) small frequent meals rather than large meals
(2)avoiding spicy, fried, acidic foods eg tomato, mint, onion, citrus fruits
(3)reducing caffeine use
