Question : Hi, my doctor prescribed Buspirone @ 5mg 2x a day for my anxiety, which I 6 days ago. How long should I give it til the side effects subside and my body adjusts and see if this is the right drug for me. I'm still very anxious, have numbness of the mouth and my blood pressure has increased.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. Buspirone is a safe drug and is free of serious side effects. When the drug is started for first couple of weeks mild restlessness can be expected. So please wait for a week and any side effect will reduce. The drug will be able to control anxiety effectively then.

If the anxiety is uncontrollable then discuss with your doctor and ask for increase in the dose of the drug. Other option is to start some other drug like low dose benzodiazepines like Klonopin or Xanax. These drugs will act rapidly to result in improvement of anxiety.
