Suggest Treatment For High BP In Elderly People

Question: hi - I've a friend visiting me and she is 86. We both took our blood pressure with an Omron Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor. I took 3 readings for her and they were 196/84, 187 /85 and 187/114 (this one was earlier in the day). She has an appointment with her heart doctor next Tuesday. She does have heart issues and is on a blood thinner but that's abut all I know. What is your opinion on whether to wait to see her normal heart doctor or should she seek some attention for these readings now. She has no idea what her normal pressure is or should be. She appears fine but did indicate earlier that she felt her cheeks were warm.

Brief Answer:
attention necessary now.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Blood pressure is too high.

2. Check your blood pressure and if it is within normal limits for you, you need to take her to ER.

3. Above 180 systolic, especially with heart issues and blood thinner, not advisable to wait. Risk of intracranial hemorrhage is present.

Reduction necessary to less than 140, meet the doctor at the earliest.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
