Question: My father is 65 year old man and is a patient of High Blood pressure .

He used to take a pill of Cardace(drug :Ramipril 2.5 mg) and Depin Retard each two times a day as directed by our family General physician long back.

For about 3-4 days ,he is not getting the sound sleep , got some pain in the chest day before ,find a bit cold in the night and wakes up with mouth full of saliva out of his face.

I monitored his blood pressure in the morning as soon as he waked up and it was

Systolic : 153 mm Hg

Diastolic: 101 mm Hg

One hour after consuming the above pills it was

Systolic : 147 mm Hg

Diastolic : 97 mm Hg

and in the late evening it was the same.

Please let me know what could be done to get him back to normal as we do have history of cardiac arrest in our family as all our paternal uncle's and grand pas died of same cause.

Please do let me know if any tests are needed to get the exact cause ( like HDL, LDL , trigleceriges , cholesterol count etc.)

please reply as soon as possible as this can be fatal

Brief Answer:
See physician or cardiologist and ecg

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

First thing you need to see a physician or cardiologist and have ECG and chest X-ray done and if necessary further evaluation. As he has no evaluation of cardiac status it's not advisible to change medicines only.

It's looking like he might be having pulmonary edema. Accumulation of water in lungs.

It can be purely due to uncontrolled hypertension but could represent an additional heart issue as well.

As immediate measure increase cardace to 5mg after discussing with the treating doctor
