Blood pressure treatment should be done under physician's care..
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concern. However with respect to hypertension management, it is important to start treatment under strict medical guidance. When I say strict medical guidance, I meant the treatment should be started while the patient is monitored by a physician. The effects of drugs, blood pressure changes following treatment as well as side effects should be monitored closely.
If he has no previous medical ailment such as a kidney disease then it would be good option to start telmisartan. I recommend he visits a physician / cardiologist before taking telmisartan or any other antihypertensive drug.
Besides, at 68 years with high blood pressure, a baseline cardiac examination, ECG and echocardiogram will be beneficial.
Hope you got my point. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Regards
