Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern, and would like to explain that your reported blood pressure value 154/1+9 (though diastolic value isn't written clearly: is it 109 or else?) if persists in such values is considered hypertension, and needs to be treated.

In such case, it is necessary to closely monitor your BP values for a couple of days (several times daily), write those values down and consult your attending physician about those BP recordings.

If hypertension is confirmed, the first thing to be done is to rule in/out secondary hypertension (to investigate for possible secondary etiological causes of hypertension, whose treatment would lead to hypertension resolution).

Coming to this point, a careful physical exam, a resting ECG, cardiac ultrasound, chest X ray study, several blood tests like:

- complete blood count
- thyroid, liver, adrenal and renal function tests
- fasting blood glucose
- blood electrolytes,
- arterial blood gas analysis
- blood lipid profile, etc

If secondary causes of hypertension are excluded, then the next step to do is an optimal antihypertensive treatment.

Remember that high blood pressure, in addition with dyslipidemia, smoking contact, diabetes or abnormal glucose metabolism, are known coronary risk factors and should be vigorously treated or avoided.

You need to discuss with your attending doctor about the above mentioned issues.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

In case of further uncertainties, feel free to ask me directly whenever you need!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
