Suggest Treatment For High Cholesterol Levels And Chronic Cough

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jun 2017
Question: Hello - this questions is related to my mom who is 58 years old and is diabetic with high cholesterol and also has mild chronic cough. She is currently on medication for these.
She has prolapsed uterus/gland for few months now and our doctor recommended hysterectomy procedure and recommended a series of tests to determine she is fit for the surgery. Could you please take a look at the attached reports and provide your thoughts? Based on her thyroid profile, sugar levels, do you offer any advice and suggest any course of action?

Please let me know if you need any further details to answer this question. Thanks a lot.

Brief Answer:
Depends on her feeling

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir, thanks for trusting health care magic
Yes she needs endocrinologist work up for thyroid as her gland seems to be hyperfunctioning may be because of some medication or module itself.
As far as prolapse surgery is concerned just ask her how bothered is she because of the prolapse as it has no medical treatment
So if prolapse is causing a lot of problems then she should get it operated for sure
Take care

Thanks doctor, please see below couple of follow-up questions.

1. For the thyroid, could you please let me know in simple terms how significant the hyperfunctioning is and what treatments maybe necessary?

2. Secondly, she does have a bit of discomfort and she has been having a bit of constipation over time also. Assuming she prefers the surgery, do you see any risk based on her thyroid reports? Or do you see them as two different things that can be addressed separately? I just want to ensure the thyroid treatment, or her cough have no bearing on the surgery.

Please let me know. Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
Treat thyroid and cough before surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, you do have genuine concerns
Yes both thyroid and prolapse have different etiology and are not related to each other but thyroid levels should be normal before surgery
Visit an endocrinologist for proper dosage which will suffice and is a easy thing to tackle
In case she has cough then she should definitely get it treated before surgery otherwise this prolapse problem can recur
Surgery in general is easy and nothing much to worry and she will feel comfortable with routine work in a week after surgery
Take care
