Tylenol and tepid sponging should help in bringing down the temperature
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I am sorry to hear that your son is sick. Such symptoms are usually caused due to certain viral infections. If fever is present, it needs to be controlled by the use of tylenol or paracetamol, and tepid sponging. The mininum interval between doses for tylenol or paracetamol is 3-4 hours. Irrespective of the use of antibiotics, such infections may last for 5-10 days. Saline nasal drops like Nasoclear may be given in case of nasal block. Giving steam inhalation or use of humidifiers should be helpful by helping in diluting the cough. I would suggest adding Relent Syr. 5 ml once daily as it contains a mucolytic along with an antiallergic and can be given. It will also take care of the cough. I would not suggest any other medication as of now.
Please be patient. But if the child grows lethargic or develops wheezing, you would have to take her to a pediatrician without delay. Otherwise I would not really worry.
Hope that helps.

It is available over the counter
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
You can get cetirizine syrup (available as a over the counter medicine). Relent contains the same ingredient.
If the symptoms are taken care of, I do not think that there would be a problem with sleep.
Hope that helps.

This medicine is good. Give steam as well.
Detailed Answer:
Cough medicines are of two broad types - expectorant and cough suppressants. You are probably talking about some cough suppressant. However, I would not suggest that. Going for expectorants is a better idea. Steam acts as a good expectorant. Cetirizine syrup is also helpful.
If you want a prescription medicine, you would have to visit a doctor and get it prescribed.
The medicine and the intervention exactly suit your requirement.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
I understand your situation. Let me assure you that the medicines interventions that I suggested exactly suit the situation. When our respiratory secretions become thick, they can no longer come out on their own and need to be coughed out. The associated allergic reaction is responsible for the urge to cough. The simple solution is to give some antiallergic like cetirizine and to dilute the cough back to its normal consistency so that it is able to move normally as in case of a normal individual. Do not worry; he would not be producing a lot of phlegm as a result.
I hope you understand.

XXXX and XXXXXXX Sr.
Hope for your son to get well soon.
Detailed Answer:
I would hope for my suggestions to be effective. But please note that irrespective of what you do, it is not likely to take 5-10 days to recover. If things get worse, visiting a doctor would be a better idea as he would be able to assess the child clinically. Meanwhile I would always be there to help you out.
