I am taking cabergoline for increased prolactin due to irregular menstruation.

Having a high prolactin level can interfere with ovulation, which can cause you to miss you period for months at a time.
If that is the reason you started taking the medication, you most likely have a lot of menstrual tissue that has not come out completely. This causes your period when it does come to be heavier and longer than it should be.
If your cycle continues monthly, the bleeding will get lighter and your period will gradually get shorter. If that does not occur, your gynecologist can prescribe medication that can help regulate your cycle better.
