Question : Hi, My name is XXXX. My query is regarding my mother's health issue. She is 57 yrs and suffers for high sugar. She seems to have developed a condition in the right shoulder which has caused the tissues to tear and water to fill in the same. I would like to know if she needs to go through surgery or can she manage without it in any other way or alternative medication? if yes how do i choose the right doctor and what will the after care include?

Brief Answer:
Get this evaluated by an orthopedician

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

Although it isn't possible to diagnose her condition without an examination and a few tests, her history is suggestive of Adhesive capsulitis(Frozen shoulder) or Calcifictendonitis.

These conditions are easily managed by regular physiotherapy ( Range of motion exercices, stretching and strengthening exercises). Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as aspirin and ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), can help reduce pain and inflammation associated with this condition.

I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician nearby for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Your doctor after diagnosing the condition might refer her to a physical therapist. A physical therapist can teach you stretching exercises to help maintain as much mobility in your shoulder as possible.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care

Dr. XXXXXXX thank you for the quick response. The report attached was of the MRI performed 2 weeks ago. the doctor has suggested surgery. I would like to know at my mother's age how much time will she need to recover from surgery? I would really prefer her to not undergo it as she also suffered from spondilyties a few yrs ago. Can you also tell me how much time will physiotherapy take to improve her condition?
