Suggest Treatment For Hives Around Ankles And Feet

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: I have chronic hives. It started several years ago when I would break out in hives around my ankles/feet. Changed my detergent to Dreft and that helped for some time. Now I get hives everyday-- almost. They appear on my hands, inside/outside of my arms, inside/outside of my thighs and legs. The itch is unbearable. I've had to take antihistamines nearly every day -- sometimes more than once a day -- it works to get rid of them. I usually get them in the morning shortly after I get up or in the late afternoon at work or just being at home. It's driving me bonkers and I don't want to take medication every day.

Brief Answer:
combination of levocetrizine and montelukast

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.
I have read your query.
I understand your concern.
As per details, it seems that you are suffering from Chronic Urticaria.
It is characterised by red colored itchy transient eruptions over body.
It can be caused by allergy to recent infection, any food, seasonal change, drugs, pollen grains etc.
I will advise you to get your thyroid profile, Absolute Eosinophil count, IgE levels done.
In such chronic cases, I prefer to advise oral antihistaminics like combination of levocetrizine and montelukast to my patients.
A course of atleast 3 months is necessary to control the allergy.
Montelukast prevents the trigger of allergy in body and levocetrizine controls it once it is triggered.
In resistant cases, consideration is given to start oral steroids in XXXXXXX pulse form.
You should visit your doctor and share my opinion with him.
I am sure that he would agree with this.
I hope it helps.
Take care
