Question : I was taken off the patch and now have hot flashes. I ordered Progynova on line and am concerned that I could be harming my overall health. I am a healthy 68 year old. The pills are helping..but don't want to tell my ob/gyn. on line info says I should also be taking progestogen.????

progynova is a form of estrogen, and it is a reasonable and effective way to treat hot flashes at your age. however, since it only contains estrogen, unless you also take a progesterone, you can develop uterine cancer. this can easily be fixed by calling your doctor and telling him/her what you are taking so that you can get a prescription for a progesterone.

this is easily tolerated and safe and effective. no reason to feel bad about what you are going, just make sure you get the right treatment. if you have had a hysterectomy, you may not need the progesterone, but talk up your doctor about that.
