Question: I am age 31 male. Hello on very warm days I get dizzy hotflashes sweating fatigue and horribleanxiety. The anxiety gets so bad every time it happens I am almost 100% convinced I am having a heart attack. All of my symptoms match that of a heart attack. However I have had 100s of these types of episodes and yet have to drop dead. I've spoken people I know who work in the medical field and are all convinced I have a problem with health related anxiety. There are times symptoms are so severe I don't leave my home in fear that my leaving would cause me to suffer from stroke or heart attack. On those days I have almost no energy at all and experience heart pain almost 100% of the time as well as occasional palpitations lightheaded feelings fatigue as well as derealization. I've been suffering with this condition for the past 10 years. The symptoms are very unpredictable. At times I wouldn't have any for a year then they would suddenly return and I would again have to put my life on hold. Triggers that I am aware of is anything that is physically exerting such as jogging running, being stuck in traffic or a very crowded stuffy place like a supermarket during busy hours. I have been this way ever since my first attack which I believed was a heart attack back when I was 19. After being tested for literally everything all results came back normal and was told I was perfectly healthy minus the elevated blood pressure. No history of heart disease or anxiety disorders in my family. I do have higher blood pressure than normal and very slightly over weight. Any insight or information would be highly appreciated. This condition has been extremely life crippling.

Brief Answer:
Restart Medications and you need to be treated for anxiety/panic attacks.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM. Thank you for the detailed history, it really helps. I can say to you that you have anxiety/panic attacks, that is provoked by stress; the traffic situation, the packed grocery store and exertion, this will need medications called SSRI's that will help you cope with the daily challenges/stressful situations that you will certainly encounter. At your age of 19 I highly doubt you had a heart attacks and even now though heard of, unless your are very unhealthy and have other medical conditions going on a heart attack would be in my radar but not the explanation that I would be looking for.

So who to see? I would consult with a psychiatrist and or psychologist, they are very good at teasing the triggers and can provide some CBT/cognitive behavioral therapy that you can employ if you are caught without your medications. I hope this helps and good luck.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I will go upon your recommendation and seek a psychologist psychiatrist. Also is it possible to get the physical symptoms before any of the anxiety. For example sudden feeling of dizzyness before I really start to worry or light dull chest pains. I've had these on going for years. I apologize if I sound redundant. I aware I do suffer from generalized anxiety and am constantly paying the closest attention to any symptoms I may be feeling.

Brief Answer:
Yes the physical symptoms and chest pain will be part of the anxiety/panics

Detailed Answer:
You are welcome, yes the physical symptoms and signs are typical, but it presents differently to different people. I think treatment is key so that you are not so worried about such events in the future.
