Question: i am seeing lines and circles on the wall when there are none there. It is worse in the dark but I can also see them a little in the light. Last night i woke up and thought my neighbors cat was setting on the window seal for my bedroom window. There is no window still on my bedroom. This is not something that has ever happened before it is a little scary.

Brief Answer:
A number of medical or psychiatric causes should be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. You are seeing lines or circles on wall when there are none there. In dark the symptoms are worsening. You have some dizziness too. Considering your age there are few possibilities that should be ruled out properly.

First thing that should be ruled out is hypertension. Get your blood pressure checked. Very high Blood pressure might result in edema and this can lead to the symptoms you are having. Also get blood sugar levels done to rule out diabetes. If there is no history of diabetes or hypertension then no need to worry.

Other possibility is some electrolyte imbalance. If possible visit a doctor and get your serum sodium, potassium and calcium levels done. This will rule out any electrolyte imbalance. An eye examination should rule out ophthalmology cause the possibility of which is very less likely.

Once these medical causes are ruled out then other possible reasons are some dementia or psychotic symptoms. Some times age related changes in brain result in such type of symptoms. Even in anxiety seeing lines or circles etc are seen.

Low dose antipsychotic drug like Olanzapine can help to relieve these symptoms. Please don't delay and visit a psychiatrist for help.

Thanks. Take care
