default
Posted on Mon, 8 May 2017
Question: Three weeks ago, I developed a rash on my lower calf, both legs. The rash is still in this location and has now moved to my face and arms. Last night my lower ears became swollen and started to bleed. I went to a dermatologis and she gave me a creme called Bacotracom Zinc. I have been taking it for two weeks and its done nothing.

Brief Answer:
Impetigo, management detailed below

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

I have gone through your query and seen the reports attached

Red sores along with crusting are indicative of impetigo, which is caused by bacterial infection of the skin.
Since your sores are spreading even while using Bacitracin ointment, bacterial resistance to antibiotics should be looked for by culture and sensitivity. Oral antibiotics might also be needed for management.

Please follow up with your dermatologist for further management.
Meanwhile, use a cotton swab dipped in antiseptic lotion, to gently scrape the crust on sores (if not too painful) and then apply bacitracin zinc ointment, to ensure proper penetrance of antibiotic.
Wash your hands properly after touching the rash and do not share towels, clothes etc to prevent spread of infection.

Hope I was able to help you
