Suggest Treatment For Increasing Red Mildly Itchy Rashes On Torso

Posted on Fri, 14 Aug 2015
Question: I have a rash on my torso. It started about a month ago. It's on my back and front and sometimes up into my underarms. It is red and mildly itchty. It is not widespread, and it sort of goes in-and-out with its appearance and discomfort level. I have no other symptoms. I thought it might be related to a reaction to chlorine from a hot tub or pool, or something that was in the water? The rash is not on my legs or arms or head, and it is not painful. It appears as small red dots with a pimple-like characteristic.

Brief Answer:
Possible fungal infection. Try Fluconazole and Levocetrizine for relief.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

You have mentioned that the rash itches mildly and in fact you had applied an anti itch spray on it. Furthermore you say that it comes and goes. The fact remains that it's distribution is along your torso. The first diagnosis is that of a fungal infection. Due to it's widespread characteristics, I would recommend an oral antifungal tablet. This is to be taken just once. I would recommend fluconazole. You need to see a skin doctor to get a prescription for this drug. The second most important medicine for your discomfort is called as an antihistamine. I would recommend levocetrizine tablets. These do not cause the side effects of drowsiness and will allay your itching sensations, that may lead you to scratch the "pimple" like appearance of the skin causing further infections and complications.

Feel free to ask any doubts or other health related issues.

Thanks,
