Suggest Treatment For Indigestion And Abdominal Discomfort After Every Meal

Question: Hi,

I have been feeling a little sick on and off in my stomach. For example, whenever I feel this way it is usually after a meal, however, not after every meal. I might have this feeling once in a day, or once every few days. It lasts for about 45 minutes to an hour and goes away by itself. I took over the counter medications for indigestion but I don't know if they were helpful because the feeling usually goes away by itself.
Another example is at the gym, sometimes If I go to the gym and have some minor stomach discomfort, It goes away when I start my workout and I feel fine.
Other then that, my appetite is completely normal, I actually have quite a large appetite, I don't feel sick during meals, I don't get full easily either, I don't feel too full after meals, no nausea, bowel movements are completely normal, there is no pain or burning either. When I get this feeling, I sometimes burp a little bit more then usual but I have a habit of doing that after meals. Also, many times, eating something makes the feeling go away. For example, once I was feeling this way and had many slices of pizza and felt fine after. It feels more as if the feeling is in the gut/belly/lower stomach whenever it happens. Laying down on my stomach while I feel this way makes me feel better. Although nothing makes it worse, I could go for a run or workout and I'll actually feel better.
In conclusion, the feeling is quite mild, usually comes after a meal once every few days, when it does come, it usually will not happen more then 1 time in the day for about 45 minutes. It doesn't get in the way of doing anything, I just feel a little "down" when it happens. I was quite sick with a virus about 2 months ago, and that's when this feeling - along with other symptoms started - I am ok now but this feeling comes and goes still. At that time, it was much more frequent, it has slowly decreased since then but still shows up.
My question is, is this indigestion or dyspepsia? My doctor does not agree with me. He says it does not sound like anything that needs medical attention other then over the counter medication to control symptoms if I really feel like I need to use them. I know of a few people who have indigestion and they're symptoms usually never go away completely. My diet has usually been the same, so I don't know if I might be allergic to something but it doesn't happen everyday so it's hard to tell if some kind of food triggers it.
Any help is appreciated

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking.
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:
1. You are reporting to have been sick from a viral infection two month ago. At that time you have started to feel sick and it continues till now in mild form.
To my opinion all your symtoms may be related with :
- IBS ( mild form ) triggered by gastrointestinal infection two months ago ( even you do't have bowel movement changes)
- SIBO( small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)

2. If I were your treating doctor I would suggest to do hydrogen breathing test to rule out/ confirm SIBO.
The most probable cause is IBS triggered by bacterial imbalance and bowel movement changes during GI infection. It will needs a couple of months to get rid of it. The fact that after Gym your symptoms improve indicates more about IBS.

3.Meantime I suggest to :
- use probiotics
- increase physical activity
- avoid unnecessary stress
- avoid alcohol
- use foods reached in fibers
- use antispasmodics drugs if necessary

Hope it was helpful to you
