Question : I awoke with a rapid heartbeat which is also irregular. I think it is indigestion but antacids have not helped as they usually do.

Welcome.
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
Irregular heart beat can be because of many reasons.
It could be normal sinus arrhythmia(change in rhythm due to respiration), PVC's(irregular contractions from normal part of heart) or can be serious arrhythmia like Atrial Fibrillation.
You need to do ECG at the time of this irregular heart beat to rule out these conditions.
