Suggest Treatment For Infection Above Upper Front Tooth At Base Of Nasal Passage

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Mar 2015
Question: I have an infection above my upper front tooth at the base of my nasal passage. I've had this before and successfully treated it with a Zpac, and the last time I had this infection flair up I took Augmentin. The infection doesn't seem to be getting any better and I'm reading online that it's Penicillin based. I've been allergic to Penicillin since age 3. Am I in trouble?

Brief Answer:
Are you on any medication at this time?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this infection that you have reported. I will like to know if you are on any medications at this time. It is true that we have to be careful with medications especially if you have developed an allergy to a member of the drug family.

Allergies do not always last for the whole life. Also, some allergies would not tend to be present with all the drugs of that family, The fact that you have not reported any adverse reaction even after taking the medication is reassuring and there is no need for further worries at this time about allergies. Monitoring alone is enough.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information if need be.

I just finished a 5 day course of Augmentin and I'm halfway through a 10 day course of Clindamycin. The infection doesn't seem to be breaking down and draining like it has the past two times it's flared up. I've felt a lot of pain in my sinus cavity these past few days and haven't been up and around much at all. I have another 5 day course of Augmentin on hand. Should I begin taking it? They are 1000 mg tabs.

Brief Answer:
Did you get a culture on of this draining infetion site?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You have taken a series of very powerful antibiotics and if you are not feeling a lot better and the infection showing no signs of improvement, the antibiotics might not be the best at this time. I will suggest that you doctor orders a culture. This would permit us to identify the specific germ and what antibiotic would work on it. From the results we would adapt your antibiotics prescriptions. I will not recommend you continue taking antibiotics that have clearly not been any helpful for the past 10days.

Talk with your doctor and let me know what you think about this. Until then I wish you well.
