Suggest Treatment For Infection Of The Gastrointestinal Tract

Question: Hello. My on Tuesday May 19 my husband woke up at 5am throwing up. He continued to get sick for the next 24 hours but then stopped on Wednesday which was followed by 2 days oh diarrhea. He has had stomach cramps the entire time and has had nothing but water and gatorade, and a few small bowls of applesause since Tuesday. Could this be just a bad case of the flu or is it something more serious? He has no other health issues but he does smoke cigarettes. He won't eat anything but he did ask if Jello would be ok. Is this something that would be good for him? I'm obviously just trying to avoid taking him into the emergency room if all he needs to do is eat.

Brief Answer:
He is having infection of gastrointestinal tract.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, it seems that your husband is having infection of the gastrointestinal tract and needs medical management.

I would advise that he should take an antacid like Omeprazole 40mg once a day before meals along with Domperidone 30mg.
Antibiotic like Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily along with Metronidazole 400 mg thrice daily will help in controlling the infection.
A probiotic will have added benefits.

He should eat light meals prepared under hygienic conditions. He should avoid package foods like jello etc, at present.
He should also maintain his hydration.

I hope this is helpful to you.
If you have any further query, I will be happy to help.
Regards. Thanks.
