Suggest Treatment For Inflamed Abscess In The Perineum Area

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Feb 2017
Question: I am 61 yrs old and have what seems to be an inflamed fissure in my perineum area, directly below entrance to vagina. long line that seems to be pink and very painful to the touch, let alone have sex, which I haven't had in years due to this. Drs usually recommend hormonal cream, such as Estrace to rub topically and that hasn't helped. They say the area is thin due to Menopause. I looked at it last night and it hurt from my touching it and burned upon urination. I applied coconut oil and soothed it. Not sure what dr to see to fix this..Gynecologist or Urologist.

Brief Answer:
Atrophic Vaginitis

Detailed Answer:
I believe a Gynecologist would be more useful in these regards. What is sounds like is that due to menopause, the lubrication of your vaginal canal has slowed, and thus with less skin protection, predisposes your tissue to further inflammation. The condition is called Atrophic Vaginitis. Nonetheless, these symptoms can be caused by infections and or glandular inflammation or drainage issues, so you must be prudent to follow and if possible, schedule an appointment with an OBGYN at earliest convenience.

Yes, I will schedule an appt. when I receive my new insurance card. XXXXXXX A previous gyno suggested steroid cream every other day..Does this sound like something I should use? Thanks..Also, if the actual vagina isn't affected, and the issue is below it, is it still atrophic vaginitis?

Other Options

Detailed Answer:
It can. Or it could be other dermatological conditions, such as candida or dermatitis. If there is a foul odor I'd suggest treatment for yeast infection. If dermatitis, I'd suggest possible hydrocortisone cream every other day to test the responsiveness of your tissue. Vitamin cream (vit e) to the area may also serve some benefit. All the best.
