Suggest Treatment For Influenza
Question: Hello. I recently went to the doctors and I have been diagnosed with Influenza.
The doctor gave me the following tablet medication:
Garcol
U-G tab 500mg
Chlorpheniramin 4mg
Fludane
All 1 tab 3 times a day for 3 days.
I suffer from frequent coldsores Type 2 around my lip, Eyes and nose. So to prevent outbreaks I usually take Acyclovir 200mg 1 tab 2 times daily.
My question is : will any of these drugs react with the Acyclovir ?
Will long term or frequent use of Acyclovir make the cold sore virus more resilient to the drug?
Will I get worse out breaks if I stop taking it?

The medications you are currently on does not interact with Acyclovir and can be taken safely along with Acyclovir.
However, I would like to mention that the active ingredient in Garcol is a combination of diphenhydramine and choro theophylline. Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine.
Chlorpheniramine is also an anti histamine. Fludane is a combination of acetaminophen/paracetamol, phenyl propanolamine, and anti histamine. You are currently on too many anti histamines which can cause side effects like excessive sedation, headache, urinary retention, dry mouth etc. I would recommend that you discontinue Garcol and chlorpheniramine tablets and just continue Fludane for 3 days.
Long term use of Acyclovir has not found to cause resistance in Herpes virus.
Long term Acyclovir therapy is very effective in suppressing recurrent outbreaks. So if you stop Acyclovir there are increased chances of cold sore outbreaks which can be severe than before.
