Brief Answer:
may cause pain in the general area

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The hernia may be associated with discomfort in the area it is located especially on coughing, lifting any heavy objects or straining with bowel movements but it would not cause bloating and excess gas.

If the pain is in the general area of the hernia, then it is the likely cause. Abdominal pain is usually related to structures in the area, though in some cases it may be referred pain.

If it is in the central lower abdomen, the bladder would also need to be considered

Bloating and excess gas can be related to: (1)lactose intolerance
(2)use of gas producing foods- broccoli, beans, cabbage, brussel sprouts, turnips, carbonated drinks
(3)food intolerance
(4)GERD - reflux is a common cause
(5)constipation causes retention of air
(6)celiac disease

You can try one of the reflux meds to see if it would help even if not due to reflux ,they are normally effective for most causes of bloating.
Eg would be nexium, prevacid, prilosec, protonix

IN terms of the pain, if this continues then you should be reviewed by your doctor.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
