Question: you are all very helpful. One more question for the night. I have insomnia, and many people tell me that's from stress. I'm not aware of any stress while I'm trying to sleep. What can I can I do?

Brief Answer:
It can be primary insomnia, follow Sleep Hygiene

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing back.

Insomnia can be of two types.

Primary Insomnia :
Sleep disturbance is primarily there without any physical or psychological problem. In this Benzodiazepine group of drugs are used to get satisfactory sleep. Gradually these drugs can be stopped under medical supervision. When insomnia is not treate,d sleep deprivation itself can cause anxiety and panic attacks which in turn worsen the insomnia.

Secondary Insomnia:
Sleep disturbance is there due to some physical or psychological problem.Mainstay of the treatment is treatment of underlying problem, Insomnia can be treated with short term use of medicines with behavioral modification.Stress induced insomnia is from this category. And stress reduction is needed in this case.

In both conditions some measures called 'Sleep Hygiene' are very useful to get good sleep without medicines. You can find the same in this link:

You do not have any stress so no psychological illness is there probably. But sleep disturbance is stressful for you. Please do not think about not getting sleep while in bed. Go to bed only when you feel sleepy. And use books to read which are boring for you which can induce sleep. otherwise medicines are there which you can take under doctor' guidance.
If you have any physical problem, go for correction/treatment of the same also.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr. Chintan Solanki.

Take care.
